Project Overview

Completed in 2017, the American Express Regional Headquarters is a more than 400,000-square-foot corporate campus designed to foster collaboration and modern workspaces. Physical Security delivered a comprehensive glazing system that balanced Florida’s extreme weather conditions with the aesthetic and functional needs of a contemporary workplace. The project features large glass expanses and a clean, transparent façade to support the building’s modern architectural vision.

Scope of Work

Physical Security provided the full exterior glazing package, including:

  • Custom-engineered curtainwall systems for all building elevations.
  • Impact-resistant exterior glazing meeting Miami-Dade/Florida HVHZ standards.
  • High-performance insulated glazing units (IGUs) for solar control and daylighting.

Challenges and Solutions

  • HVHZ Compliance: The headquarters are located in Florida’s High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ), which comes with special requirements. We crafted a glazing package to meet them and ensure impact resistance and long-term durability.
  • Aesthetic Precision: Architecture firm Perkins & Will’s design for the building called for each glass pane to feature a unique ceramic frit pattern. Our team provided careful coordination from procurement to installation to bring the vision to life.
  • Solar and Energy Performance: Physical Security engineered glazing solutions that balanced transparency with energy efficiency, optimizing for solar heat gain control and glare reduction.

Results

Physical Security’s clean, transparent glazing enhanced the American Express Regional Headquarters, contributing to its identity as a light-filled, open modern workspace. The high-performance glazing contributed to the building’s sustainability goals, reducing HVAC load and improving occupant comfort. Our impact-rated glazing systems ensure long-term resilience against Florida’s extreme weather conditions.
